I never found wax to work better than an excellent, clean finish. I made a mistake earlier and had to do a lot more work because i used rain dance blue carnauba wax. I have used all of these methods.
Mineral spirits will cut and remove most any wax finish. It's made for wood floors.the big yellow can is soooooo much cheaper than the gun stock wax which is nothing more than johnson's in a little bottle at 10 times the price.floor cleaning section ! $7.42 buys you a one pound can.will last for decades !

I was just going to dab a paper towel with oil, wipe it on and then quickly off with dry paper towel. If you just want to maintain a military stock, blo or toms mix or gunny paste will all work. Ray’s is an excellent protectant and is great for long term storage.

Beretta tru oil is surposed to give the stock an oiled finish but all it does is sit on the surface and go dry then turns yellow i tried putting just a tiny drop on my stock and the finish was **** sanded it off tried again and still looked **** did this four times in a month then gave up spoke to my local gun smith to see if he could give the stock a proper oiled finish and he said try napier. It was actually pretty cool if that is a look you are going for, since it filled in the tiniest pours and gave the stock a bluish tint. All you need to put a beautiful, rugged finish on your wooden gun stock.
